Has anyone had problems with the bass swallowing hooks all the way down? I sure have. I have lost so many hooks due to it so far this year. Am I doing the right thing by just cutting the line at the hook and leaving it in there? I heard the fall out naturaly over time. I hope so.

Does anyone know if there are any options for accessible boat storage anywhere around the Lake Cochituate or there Charles River / Waltham areas? I really want to get a boat of some sort except I live just outside of Boston in an apartment complex so my storage options are very limited. I've seen traditional storage places but nothing where you can keep a boat and take it out when you want at a decent price. No friends out here fish so I'm stuck on the shore 90% of the time.

i like the canoe as paddling is pretty good exercise and you can get it in and out of some tight places (foundry, turner, etc). but after seeing the rest of you fish in comfort and style, i just couldn't help myself, lol.

bought a used 11' coleman crawdad tonight off of craigslist. now i just need to find a trailer hitch that fits my car so i can get it home. should be legal and out on the water within a week or so.

nicholas is very excited....

natickguy-8lb Trilene XL is my go to line,I fish it probably 80 percent of the time, there are people, alot of people who would argue that it's too light and in a couple of applications it can be but putting a heavier leader on is not the answer. If your're getting bitten off using crankbaits then I suspect you're throwing tiny crankbaits, either that or you got some monster pickerel in your neck of the woods.I don't fish any rapalas less than 3 inches long and have never been bitten off by a pickerel,do you have pike in that lake? That can be another story entirely but messing with a leader while bass fishing in my opinion is completely unecessary,I like to keep it simple, throw bigger crankbaits! You're wasting your time if you're throwing tiny ones, trust me,you'll get just as many fish throwing big ones, little bass will hit em too, hell I get 9-10 inch perch hitting 5 inch minnows and shadraps all the time.

natickguy
05/03/09 09:39 PM
anybody have any recommendations on what line to use? i've always heard lighter is better. in the past, i have always used what came on the reel when i bought it. 2 weeks ago i bought a new reel and needed to add my own line. i put on trilene xl smooth casting - 8-lb test.

i have lost 3 rapalas in the past two weeks to pickerel biting through it. i guess i could rig up a thicker leader, but curious what everybody else is using?

mikeyc
04/30/09 04:52 PM
Spinning. Thanks Meat.

meat7gtk
04/30/09 02:37 PM
Mikey is it for baitcast or for spinning? Baitcast 6:4:1 or something close should be fine, for spinning 5:2:1 or something close should be fine.

Popo an I are going Wed morning for my first trip. Just went to Bass Pro yesterday. Blew $60 on line alone, but all set for the year. $27 for 300 yards of my40lb test power pro $15 for 2lb test Fireline Crystal. Thats for my ultralight. Cant wait to try it out. Looks like its as thin as tread, but srong as hell an 1/2 lb diameter should be able to get all 125 yards on my lil spool + a lil backing. Some 10lb test Trilene for backing on the reels with Power Pro an to fill my other spools for trout fishing. Only thing left to get is a spool or flourocarbon line to make leters for when i'm fishing for smallies. Read an article that says that smallies can see braid an thay you should use flouro when liters when using braid . We'lll see!!!

It Prob wont be til May or June. An him or I will let you guys know details. Im fiquring on camping Thur nite through Sun morning. It will Probably run everyone about $80 to camp and rent boats. We can the see if people just want to split food an come up with a $ amount per person for food. This would be a great outing an for you guy's who haven't fished the Q a great fishing and outdoor experience.

Well I Screwed up my back last Tuesday at work. Doc said thats it for casting for a month. So thats about it for me. I will hopefully get out a few times over the winter down Plymouth trolling for salmon when they stock them in Febuary I think and maybe a lil smallie fishing. One thing you guys should remember ponds down Plymouth an even better so the cape hardly ever freeze over. I'll have a new camera by next spring an ready to go hopefully with a new truck to get my boat around. An I'm sure I'll be looking for company. To all you crazy ice fishers. Good luck and be safe.

Try Joe's flies in line spinners next time small ones 1/16 oz I think. Black with silver and black with gold work great. They're about 3 bucks a piece.

Went trout fishing @ Peter's Pond in Sandwich Saturday, Oct 24th. Out all day and not one strike. There was little action ,but one guy on a boat was hitting Rainbow. I couldn't figure out what he was using, but it wasn't a lure.
I was trolling the typical plugs for trout and salmon. Well, it was a beautiful day, and that's a beautiful pond, so it wasn't a total loss.

Went to Bass Pro on Sunday, 9/14. Bought a Shimano Baitrunner, $ 100.00.
I asked them to put my line on for me. Naturally, I gave them a 100 yard spool of 50 Lb Test, braided Power Pro.
The sales clerk says " this spool recommends 280 yards with 20 pound test diameter. (Power Pro 50 Lb Test). is 20 lb test dia. I had to say to him to put some mono on it as a backing 'cause I wasn't gonna' buy a 300 yard spool of Power Pro braided when I'll never use it.
He said " are you sure 100 yards is going to be enough ?
This guy must have figured me to be a real weeney. Little did he know that I'm a proud member of MAFISHFINDER, and I get my info from peolpe who know.
Anywho, I made him put a mono backing on there with the 100 yards of braided Power Pro and we went out of Fairhaven that afternoon.
I caught my first Blue on the Shimano, trolling with a pink squid 80 yards out. The blue jumped clear out of the water and was dancing on the waves. The Shimano was as smooth as butter and I absolutely loved it ! Buy far the best reel I ever owned.
I also bought a baitfish jig and some calimari to try and catch some pogey. All I caught was scup, 2 and 3 at a time. I used the scup to live- live with my new Shimano Baitrunner. I didn't even have to leave my bail open . I just flipped the live-liner switch on and sat down and had a beer with a live scup on. Everyone else was jealous !! I love this reel !!

Yuh, your right MikeC, Tom's will have large shiners. $7.50 a dozen and only 15 minutes north of me. Problem is ,we were in a hurry and I tried shops south of me. Wareham B&T, Macko, and Red Top. All were no dice.
Might go out Monday, if the weather holds, if you wanna go, PM me.

Went to Mashpee- Wakeby on Sunday the 10th. Went in the middle of the day, not much action. One of my buddies caught a 2 lb smallmouth. All that's worth mentioning.
Noticed a lot of bait shops don't have large shiners anymore. Had to buy medium shiners and a lot of them were actually small. Slim pickin's.
